Why We're Here
“There is a communion of more than our bodies when bread is broken and wine drunk. And that is my answer, when people ask me: Why do you write about hunger, and not wars or love?” — M.F.K. Fisher

Admittedly, I'm a long-time Glen Park resident. I'm also a foodie of sort, with experience that spans NYC and SF. That said, I want to give maximum props to Red+White. It's an establishment that deserves multiple, repeated visits thanks to its thoughtful (and rotating) selection of wines coupled with a unique, tasty menu of snacks. A wine bar that serves as a comfortable, quiet place to sit and converse is a welcomed addition to the neighborhood. The bill of fare is good (in and of itself), but the owner has assured us that they have "no problem" with the idea of people bringing in a pizza from local favorites like Gialina Pizzeria or Mexican taqueria La Corneta. I suppose the same would be true from Glen Park's other "to-go" establishments, like Cheese Boutique, Canyon Market or Higher Grounds (not to mention Viking Subs). Anything worth eating is made better by a good wine pairing. That's for sure. But that's not the point. |
The opening of Red+White is a big step forward for Glen Park. Every neighborhood needs a nice place to sit, nurse a quality vintage and carry on a conversation. During its short stint, the Red Rock serve this purpose, but that's old history. Red+White can be that place. BTW: lest you think it is a "neighborhood joint", keep in mind that the selection of wines covers a broad geography and reflects a high-level of sophistication. My wife and I enjoy going there to be introduced to selections that we won't find anywhere else. We wish Red+White a long tenure. It certainly is a complement to our neighborhood mainstays. GLEN PARK RULES!
